Simon DeSwaan is a Superhost who has spent 15 years working for Four Seasons hotels and resorts, and now works from home as an executive recruiter in the hospitality industry. He enjoys hosting his own short-term rental as a way to interact with people from all over the world.

From his extensive experience working with some of the top hotels and restaurants in the world, he has picked up a lot of tricks that are applicable to his (and your!) short-term rental business. 

Here are his three biggest takeaways that anyone can apply to their own rentals:

  1. Make people feel at home. They are guests as much as friends and family. This is not a business transaction, it is relationship based. That is the draw of short term rentals and that connection is important.
  2. Judge why your guest is staying and make sure you are giving them the space they need when they need it. Your guests need to know you’re there for them, but only when they need you.
  3. Offer your guests an aspirational experience: Your property should be the ideal living situation for your guests.
